NHP Visit to International Rugby

< Back to News November 12, 2021 Trips

Our group of 15 NHP children joined 81 000 fans to watch England play Tonga in the first home international since lifting of Covid restrictions. Excitement levels rose in the minibus as we approached Twickenham. Although we were nice and early we still had to endure bag searches on entry and quickly munched snacks that were not permitted past the entry gates. Inside the ground, the atmosphere was electric as the crowds built and everyone eagerly anticipated the match.

Following a delicious lunch we quickly found our seats and settled in for the pre-game entertainment. We successfully met the group of boys who represented NHP in the morning Football tournament at Barn Elms, who after winning second place hot-footed it across London to join us. The match itself was very exciting, with England attacking and scoring early on. Tonga fought back with enthusiasm and were unlucky not to score a couple of tries.

The second half was a different matter with England going on a “try-fest” to win by a very comfortable margin.

Congratulations to all our NHP children who attended, for their excellent behaviour and infectious enthusiasm throughout the day. They were first class ambassadors for NHP.
