About Us

About Notting Hill Prep

Notting Hill Prep is a co-educational independent preparatory school situated in Notting Hill in the west of London. Catering for children aged 4-13 we combine a comprehensive academic curriculum with our core value of preserving the joy of childhood.

Our approach to teaching prioritises developing how children consider and absorb learning rather than just what they know. Our head teacher Maxine Scully is passionate about guiding pupils to become confident and independent in their educational journey and beyond – not just how to sit an exam!

From their first day in reception to their final year at NHP, pupils are recognised as individuals. Small classes, committed form tutors and a diverse curriculum mean no child gets lost in the crowd, be that academically or personally.

Our Approach to Teaching

NHP is officially an Advanced Accredited Thinking School, certified by the University of Exeter, we focusjust as much on how children approach obstacles as teaching them what the curriculum requires. Cognitive learning strategies are part of our philosophy and applied into everyday school life, in every subject from science to the arts.

This means that students are encouraged to explain their thought processes as well as challenge their own assumptions, working through obstacles rather than simply reaching for an answer. Through their journey with us they will build resilience and analytical thinking that will serve them for the rest of their lives.

Curriculum & Pastoral Care

Pupils follow a broad and comprehensive curriculum all the way from reception to 13+. They are taught by subject specialists the whole way through the school. In line with core subjects, music, art, sport and drama are treated as essential to a well rounded education, and not as extras.

Every child at NHP has a form tutor who they will get to know during their time with us. They are familiar with students academically, socially and personally, helping them to feel happy and secure. Students do their best work when they are comfortable in their environment and that is why pastoral care is such an important part of life at NHP, underpinning everything we do.
