Music
In a typical class music lesson there’s plenty of moving around. Specialist music teachers use lots of games and songs that encourage students to move in time, exploring pulse and rhythm physically before they sing or play.
Over 150 individual lessons are taught each week by a team of highly qualified visiting music staff and we have a variety of performing ensembles including Orchestra, String Group, Guitar Group, Tutti Flutti and Brass Group. We also have a suite of Mac Computers for music technology and composition and the use of music technology in the classroom is supported from Year 2 and beyond.
We have four Choirs comprising Senior Choir, Recital Choir, Junior Choir and Cubs Choir. Our choirs regularly enjoy success in national competitions including the National Music for Youth Festival. In the latter, Senior Choir have regularly won through to the Nationals. Recital Choir has performed at St John’s Smith Square, Royal Albert Hall, London Palladium and appeared on Channel 5 News singing backing vocals for the world-famous rock band, Foreigner! Senior Choir takes part in an annual Tommy’s Charity Concert and Bloodwise. A festive highlight is entertaining our guests at the annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party and school musicians regularly support fundraising events for charities including Support for Grenfell and Diabetes UK.
Drama
Highlights of the year include the Autumn Poetry and Public Speaking Competition, Class Assemblies and the Year 3 and Year 6 music theatre productions. Drama is where imaginative play and self-discipline come together to unlock children’s hidden talents developing confident, expressive, articulate and empathetic children. Above all, drama at NHP is FUN!
